Offentligt foredrag: Law, Rights & Nature
In this talk, Miriam will outline some of the ideas underpinning her current research into international law, human rights and its relationship to and with nature in the context of climate change.
In it, she will discuss contemporary criticisms of the international human rights regime and the values it represents.
She will outline how the rights of nature are evolving under international and domestic law in line with conceptualisations of the rights of Indigenous Peoples, including a case study of the legal system in New Zealand, her home, in which rivers, forests and other natural features can have legal personality, and will explain some of the criticisms of that approach.
Miriam will talk for about 20 minutes and then would be glad to lead discussions and take questions, whether on the talk or on other aspects of her research an outline of which is available here.
