As a cultural and social historian my research currently focuses on Arctic regions of culture, entanglements and hidden histories (including gender history). My most recent research on "Women in the Arctic" investigated the role of women in the history of the Arctic region using biographical and literary writing by and about Northern women. Other research interests are 1) Arctic memory/heritage cultures, 2) micro-historical approaches, 3) post/decolonial perspectives.
Before coming to Greenland I completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the University of Karlstad, Sweden and worked with the Centre for History, University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland (based in the Shetland Islands). I was also a visiting research fellow (funded by the Norwegian Research Council) at Volda University College in Norway. My professional experience has covered both teaching and research, with a specific focus on historical research in rural/remote areas, internationalisation and knowledge exchange. I have successfully applied for funding in all these areas, both in connection with my own research and to support organisational development across the institution(s). I actively engage in a variety of research networks and project partnerships, including organising conferences and workshops at local, national and international centres for research.
